FIGURING OUT THE FIFTIES.... SO THIS IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT.......

Short Poppies apply here....

This is going to be a rant!!!
Be warned it will be a long and breathless rant that has been building all day....

Hubby phoned me today to tell me that we may be about to loose our key to the gym privileges...

My first thought was "OH NO! Are we loosing them because we have done something wrong"

Because frankly I would hate to think that we had, the owner of the gym has been fabulous by letting us have that key, it really is the only way I could possibly have done the competitions last year and I was already feeling sick that we might have done something to upset him after all he has done for me!!!!

No, we may be loosing it because we are obeying the rules....

WHAT?????????

Because we do as we have been asked and lock ourselves in until the morning instructor arrives and opens up, the other morning gym goers can not get in until the gym officially opens at 6am, and they are jealous!

What makes this situation difficult is that there is an elderly man who openly disobeys this rule, as he also has a key, and comes in around the same time as us, or even earlier, and insists on letting anyone in whenever they role up.. 5.15, 5.30, no worries mate the doors are wide open so in you come, doesn't matter that there is no official instructor here or that the ones rocking on in are over 70 and some are not that fit or healthy and have just spent two days in hospital with "the heart thing again"........

But he isn't there every day so on the days he doesn't come.... yep no entry, as we are obeying the rule..

So of course we are seen as the evil nasty spoilt ones who hog the gym to ourselves.

Who cares that we are also one of the very few who also have to go to work that day, who cares that I was the only ones doing competitions this year, who cares that we spend the first 10 minutes opening windows, turning on fans and cardio machines, putting the weights left out by the evening trainers away so when the others do walk in the gym is ready for them....

But what burns my nighty, what makes me want to spit, what makes me want to get on their favorite frigging treadly that says you are burning twice as many calories as what you really are for the whole 6-7am....... is that they have all been so smiley and nice and "how is the training", "whens your next competition" "how are you going" to me and at the same time they (and yes it is more than one or twobitter and twisted retired nasties) tell the owner they are not renewing their membership unless we are made to wait until 6am!

Yep they have threatened to change gyms to the only other gym on the island and honestly the thought that I have done something that could impact on this great guys business makes me feel ill.

We now have to wait till the new year to see what will happen, at this stage my choices are...

Be in and out of the gym before 5.30am... wohoo! so instead of getting up at 4am we could get up at 3am, train, do cardio then sit round for an hour before working a full day, yeah that's going to work out well..

Train at night with the unwashed, machine hogging testosterone crowd who insist on actually sitting on the dumbbell rack... noice, really noice, I want to touch that one now after your sweaty arse has been on it....

Training at night after the gym closes... yep right up there with the 3am choice... 8 hour day then waiting till 9pm to train... sounds great, I suppose we could put the weights away then for the morning crowd... not!

Setting up a home gym... we have the room... this would be my choice but we both actually enjoy the total gym thing -and purchasing a full set of equipment is just not in our budget... doh!

So once again it seems that sticking to the rules is considered wrong....

Maybe I will take the high road and be extra nice to this pack of grumpy, nasty old folks and give the whole lot of them a nice big block of sugar and fat laden calorie overloaded chocolate for Xmas, and the nasty old folks will probably think I am being nice..

Of course the one great thing that has come out of all this is that I now know why my back has been sore.. frigging knives stuck into it from the jealous ones!!!!!

Maybe I will get a T shirt that reads....

You better cut off my head..I'm a Tall Poppy!

That's a bummer Cath! Don't you just feel for those poor soles who think they are missing out on something by not getting in the doors a little earlier!!! NOT!!!! But that is just it, they think they are missing out. What is it with people these days.....when they are not getting what someone else is getting they think they need to launch a missile attack and then go into negotiations!!!!

Truth betold.....how many of these people will actually be there that early????

Gives new meaning to 'Grumpy Old Men!'

Good luck with your predicament, and so much for being 'good'.

So what Santa list will you be on Cath? The naughty or nice one??? heheheheh!

:( mean people suck!!

some gyms here are changing over to electronic passkeys with computer tracking. they allow 24 hr entry to members as long as everyone scans their cards in and out. would your place consider that?

Dang-total frickin' bummer! The 24 hour key thing seems like a good proposition. I'm thinking they'd just have to get everyone to sign waivers etc. That they are trainng at their own risk if they come in out of "staff" hours. Maybe you could ask the management about that?
I really hated having to wait until 6am in Innisfail...and then till 9am on saturdays!!
Total suck!
hope something pans out for you hon!

ya, the gyms finally realized here they were LOSING customers (money) because of the hrs. so we sign waivers, give full identification, authorize being filmed, sign legal consent, and scan our passkey in and out for tracking.

personally im not one that digs being filmed but if it means i have 24/7 gym access i dont care.

it just takes a computer program, a door passkey reader, and passkeys. and if you want extra protection, install cameras that tie in to the computer program. with my sucky hrs i dig it.
