The burnt pork chop.....

Some times you hear something and at the time it doesn't seem to fit what is going on around you... old sayings, pieces of conversations, inappropriate comments... you wonder.. WTF?? where did that come from... why did you say that??? My Nana did that a lot, suddenly this little saying or comment about life and I would think, nice Nana but why now...

I have found lately that I am recalling these sayings, old wives waffle and comments that were said to me years ago and that they pop into my head at just the right time to help me over a hurdle or a point of indecision...

Yesterday it was the burnt pork chop...

One very big unboy thing that my Hubby does and that I give him a great big hug for is SHOP! He shops like a girl on steroids... honestly, that man puts a lot of females to shame when it comes to power shopping... no standing outside the underwear shop like a bored lizard for Hubby, he is in there grabbing the lacy bits and waving them at me like a flag.. sometime to the point where it scares off the sales ladies LOL

Me, on the other hand, I am an indecisive unworthy shopper... you know the one.. instead of choosing between the red one or the orange one I convince myself that I really don't need either and walk away... Its not that I don't need or want them it just always seems a lot of money to spend on me.... I could be buying something for some one else with that money...

As you can imagine this drives super shopper Hubby somewhat insane... LOL

But yesterday while I was in the changing room and Hubby was out in the shop changing the dress sizes for me so I got the right one, and adding to the choices, and chatting to the amazed sales girl who could not believe a Hubby was capable of colour matching shoes to dresses... My Nana popped into my head and said... Burnt Pork Chop... so I bought both dresses...

Ohh I suppose I should tell you the Burnt Pork Chop theory..

The theory is that woman are bought up to believe they should have the burnt pork chop, always put others first, husbands, friends, children, parents... So when a newly married woman first cooks for her nice new hubby she tries to impress him with a fabulous meal every night... then one night she puts two beautiful pork chops into the pan but one burns, the other comes out as lovely as usual...

Now... this woman loooooves pork chops, they are HER favorite meal, her new hubby will pretty much eat roadkill if it meant he didn't have to cook it, but she gives him the nicely cooked pork chop and eats the burnt one herself, cause that what she believes is the right, proper, deserving thing to do... Always put the other person first... same when they have kids, always give the best food to the kids, they are growing, Hubby works hard he gets the most, she gets whats left..

My Nana told me that every now and then it is good to eat the best pork chop yourself... keeps you sane she said... LOL loved my Nana... So yesterday I had the pork chop.. Christmas shopping can just wait for another week...

Remember to make sure you get a nice pork chop every once in a while, whether it is a dress, a meal, or an exercise regime... put yourself first as it will keep you sane...

Haha my brother is the same. Most people just assume he must be gay as he loves to shop, moreso than most females..to the point that just before his wedding my mum and I had to help him go through and get rid of some of his clothes, as there was NO ROOM in their 4 BEDROOM HOUSE (all with built ins) for his wife to put her clothes!! lol

Anyway aside from that - what a great post :) So simple yet so true - we ladies are usually so used to putting everyone else first that it's nice to splurge on us just for a change :)

xx

PS - hope your back is getting a lil better so you can enjoy them legs workouts!!
